Getting around Kyiv

Kiev is a big city, in order to discover as much of what Kyiv offers, you will need to use the different means transportation of the city. Kyiv has a well developed public transport network system including buses, trams, trolleybuses and a metro. There are two international airports and a big railway station.

The safest way of transport is using the metro system, it is clean, efficient and reliable; and runs from 06:00 to 24:00 hours. Travelling by buses, trams and trolleybuses are the cheapest way to travel to almost all parts of the city. Another option is the funicular, a sort of tram-car running since the early 20th century that carries passenger up the steep hill of the Dnepr River in the city. Taxis can be easily hired on the street or pre-booked by telephone. Exploring the city on foot is a great way to explore the many cultural attractions of Kyiv

Almost all signage is in Cyrillic script, messages of departures and arrivals in both the bus and train terminals are said on the board in Ukrainian and English. It is recommended to pick up a pocket Ukrainian phrasebook.
