By Rail
Donetsk is one of the most important railway hubs in Ukraine; the railway system connects Donetsk with major Ukrainian cities including Kyiv (12 hours), Luhansk (3 hours), Lviv (28 hours), Odesa (15 hours), Zaporizhzhya (4 hours), Dnipropetrovsk (4½ hours), Simferopol (11 hours), Kharkiv (8 hours), among other cities. By rail you can also get to the Sea of Azov and to the central regions of Russia, to Caucasus, and Volga region. There is an overnight train that departs Kyiv at about 7:30 p.m. and arrives in Donetsk the next morning.
The Donetsk Train Station serves about 7 million passengers annually; it is located in the northern part of the city. Though not used for habitual transportation, Donetsk has a children's railway.
