The National Currency of the present-day Ukraine is Hryvnia (abbreviation: UAH), it replaced the Coupon in 1996. Ukrainian coins are called Kopiyka. 1 Hryvnia equals 100 Kopiyok (the plural of kopiyka).

Notes are in denominations of UAH 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1. Bills show historical figures on the front and famous buildings on the back. Coins are in denominations of UAH 1 and 50, 25, 10, 5, 2 kopiyok and 1 kopiyka. The Hryvnia is the official currency and all banks, restaurant, disco, and all other business are conducted in hryvnia.

Ukrainian currency can be imported up to a limit of UAH1000 and exported up to a limit of UAH10 000. If you wish to import foreign money there is a US$10 000 limit as well as a US$5000 export limit, an extraordinary permission is required if you want to exceed these quantities.

Banks in Ukraine usually work from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday; most banks are closed on Saturday and Sunday. A lunch break is taken between the hours of 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
